Tired overworked worker falls asleep during working hours in factory

1. Impaired covers a wide range of situations, such as experiencing the effects of substance use, having extreme fatigue, having a personal crisis, and many other situations.
2. The employer should have a clear policy on impaired work that is communicated with all workers. Orientations are a great way to communicate the message.
3. A documented observation report should be used when a worker is suspected of working impaired.
4. Observations need to include appearance, stance and movements, walking, talking, and many other aspects.
5. In case of cannabis consumption, in general the length of impairment is approximately 6 hours, but can depend on a variety of factors, such as: form, method and frequency of consumption, weight and size, quality of product, metabolism, tolerance/familiarity and awareness.
6. The impaired worker should not leave the site on their own. Transportation to a safe place needs to be available.
